    Fall Fun & Festivals in Abundance

    Cooler temps are on the way, leaves are starting to drop, and apples are ripe for the picking. This all means that the season for fall fun and festivals in here! Read below for some upcoming fall festivals, including one coming up this weekend!

    Perrysburg Homecoming Festival Sept. 23-24

    Following a 2-year break, the Perrysburg Homecoming Festival is returning on Sept. 23 with a pep rally at 4 p.m. hosted by Country Charm Shoppes, with an after party at Six Fifths Distilling. The festival will continue Sunday, Sept. 24 with a parade down Louisiana Ave. at 10 a.m. Immediately following the parade festival goers can stroll a marketplace filled with crafts, artists, and of course food trucks.     The Perrysburg Chamber of Commerce says, “The Perrysburg Homecoming Festival is a two-day event to celebrate the past, present, and future of the entire community.” The Perrysburg Chamber of Commerce continues… “Much of the Fall Festival will take place north of the railroad tracks and along portions of East and West Second Street. There will be a Second Street Stage with music, pumpkins, an inflatable corn maze, a magician, and much more!” Additionally, the Perrysburg Heritage Protection Society will have, “educational displays, re-enactors, oral historians, book signings, music, and more,” taking place at the Heritage Pavilion.

    MacQueen’s Apple Butter Weekend Oct. 1-2

    According to MacQueens, the Orchards’ Apple Butter Weekend is THE festival of fall. On Oct. 1-2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this fall festival will include apple and pumpkin picking, live entertainment, and barbeque. Kids can play in the play area, jump on  inflatables, take train rides and pony rides, or make furry friends in the petting zoo. Afterwards grab a sweet fall treat of donuts, funnel cakes, or caramel apples. MacQueens will also have a farmers’ market, and the gift and sweet shops on site will be open.     Toledo Zoo Harvest Fest Oct. 1-31

    This year the Toledo Zoo will celebrate a month of fall fun. “Harvest Fest is a fantastic fall festival included with general Zoo admission. It will feature giant pumpkin displays, pumpkin animals displays, seasonal food and beverage offerings and autumn- inspired activities.” Harvest Fest will kick off on Sept. 30 with a Sip Sip Hooray wine tasting event. On Oct. 7, the ZOOtober Fest will feature local as well as regional breweries. These special zoo events do require the purchase of tickets in advance.     Perhaps the best loved fall Zoo activity is the Little Boo at the Zoo. Taking place on Oct. 20-21, kids are welcome to come dressed up and trick-or-treat throughout the zoo grounds from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Little Boo will also feature pumpkin carving demonstrations, puppet shows, and character meet and greets. Be sure to take a ride on the Jack-o-lantern express, and enjoy  Halloween story times. The Little Boo is free with a zoo membership or admission ticket. Train rides are $3/person.

    Hallows Handicraft of Holland Oct. 8

    Returning for a second year the Hallows Handicraft of Holland Art and Crafts Fair will take place on Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The event is free and will feature over 40 vendors to help you get your holiday shopping done early. Kids can trick or treat at each vendor booth and enjoy free face painting and perhaps even some little pumpkin fun. The fall festival takes place at Club 16, located at 316 S. King Rd. in Holland.     Sandpiper Fall Color Cruise

    Beginning on Oct. 8 and running for several weekends, the Sandpiper Color Cruise is a wonderful way to relax and enjoy Ohio’s beautiful fall season. The Sandpiper website says, “Travel down the Maumee and enjoy the fall festival of color. Make sure to bring your camera for some of the most beautiful views along the Maumee River. As the leaves change, the river becomes even more breathtaking. This 2-hour cruise will leave you counting down the days until the next Sandpiper season.”

    Similarly, you can relax on the Maumee River Oct. 27-31 with the Sandpiper Halloween BOO! Cruise. This shorter, 30 minute cruise, will feature Halloween treats and fun and dressing up is encouraged! See the Sandpiper schedule and purchase tickets here.

    Adams Street Zombie Crawl Oct. 8

    If you prefer your fall fun on the spookier side, the Adams Street Zombie Crawl is the event for you! Taking place in downtown Toledo between 11th-21st on Adams Street, the gates will open to all zombies at 5 p.m. and close at 1 a.m. Note this event is only for the 21 and older crowd and ID checking will be enforced. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $10 and drinks and food will be available for purchase. Non-zombie attendees are also welcome. More information here.

    Sylvania Fall Festival Oct. 15-16

    The 36th Annual Sylvania Fall Festival, in historic downtown Sylvania, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 15, 4-10 p.m. through Sunday, Oct. 16, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The festival is free to attend and open to the public. Crafts and Farmer’s Market Organizations will line the streets with fall wares, arts and crafts, as well as delicious fall treats. As with most festivals, food trucks will have food available for purchase. Live music will entertain festival goers young and old alike. Costumes are encouraged for the trick-or-treat on Main Street, and afterwards kids can explore the pumpkin patch.

    This fall festival also incorporates other mini events. On Saturday, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m. in the Edward Jones parking lot, the Sylvania Nite Lite Annual Corn Hole Tournament will take place. Teams can register here. Additionally, anyone who happens to have a dinosaur costume laying around can join in on the Dino Dash on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 12:45 p.m. Dinos will dash along Main Street just prior to start of the Fall Festival Parade.

    Speaking of parade, On Sunday at 1 p.m. organizations, clubs, schools, and teams will march down Main Street in a parade celebrating the arrival and fall and the city of Sylvania. Parade participants will be award for: best in parade, most entertaining, best community spirit, Grand Marshall’s pick, and pre-parade show. More details on this event can be found here.
